Cartonplast Advocates for Circularity in EU Policy
April 30, 2025
Cartonplast has joined a coalition of European businesses, NGOs, and industry associations led by TOMRA, calling on the European Commission to recognize circularity as a strategic pillar in the Clean Industrial Deal (CID) and to reflect that in funding priorities.
Addressing a Critical Omission
The coalition's open letter to the European Commission highlights the urgent need for dedicated support for reuse systems, recycling infrastructure, and other circular solutions. While the ambition to build a resilient, low-carbon European industry is commendable, the current draft of the Clean Industrial State Aid Framework (CISAF) overlooks the critical role of the circular economy. Without explicit provisions for circularity, Europe risks missing vital opportunities to reduce emissions, retain valuable resources, and strengthen its industrial base.
Cartonplast's Commitment to Sustainability
Cartonplast is committed to driving the change needed for a sustainable future. By advocating for circularity to be recognized as a strategic pillar with substantial support, Cartonplast aims to make Europe's industry more competitive, resilient, and environmentally friendly. This initiative aligns with Cartonplast's core values of sustainability and innovation, reinforcing its position as a leader in the packaging industry.
"At Cartonplast, we believe that circularity is essential for achieving a truly sustainable and low-carbon economy. The Clean Industrial Deal has the potential to transform EU industry, but it must include robust support for circular economy projects to realize this vision," said Serkan Koray, CEO at Cartonplast.
