Food & Beverage Container Plastic Intermediate
Layer Pads - Pool Concept

Cartonplast has been supplying and cleaning Cartonplast reusable layer pads made of plastic for over 20 years. The plastic layer pads are used in the industrial applications of stacking and transporting glass and PET bottles, jars, and other containers. Until Cartonplast initiated this concept, the standard was to use disposable layer pads made of cardboard. From the beginning, Cartonplast has set innovative standards in the development of these plastic layer pads and has become the market leader in Europe as a result of this philosophy.

Cartonplast is the word that has become synonymous with corrugated plastic and is similar in appearance to corrugated cardboard with the major difference being the material of construction. This idea, which is reflected in the company name, was also promoted by the association of the container Industry (Bund der Behh䬴erindustrie) and by filling companies. This concept was desirable because these entities wanted to see the conventional cardboard disposable layer pads replaced with a system that was efficient, lower in cost, more hygienic, and environmentally friendly. Cartonplast even took the concept one step further and now offers the Cartonplast Pool System, which is a logistic circulation system.

In the Cartonplast Pool system, Cartonplast supplies the specially made layer pads to the individual glass manufacturers on a hire basis. The layer pads are made specifically to the requirements of the various manufacturers who then supply the containers, including the pads, to the filling stations. After being de-palletized, the pads are stacked on pallets and are collected by Cartonplast to be returned to a washing station. When Cartonplast receives the returned pads, they are inspected, cleaned, and then put back into circulation.

Constant monitoring of the movements of the Cartonplast plastic layer pads between individual stations and active pool control is essential to guarantee the high efficiency of the circulation system. The growing number of plants utilizing this system in Europe, guarantees full flexibility at all times and comprehensive customer service, especially at the local level.

The Cartonplast Pool concept is also important for the ecological system. If the layer pads are damaged, they are simply removed from the system and recycled into new layer pads. The washing plants are designed to conserve water by recycling and the resulting wastewater is non-toxic. Cartonplast’s efforts in the interests of the environment have been rewarded with one of Europe’s top environmental awards – that being the "Blue Angel" environmental seal. The quality of the products is confirmed by regular checks conducted by the Fresenius Institute and the high standard is guaranteed with the aid of a HACCP system. The result of all of this experience and quality control is a concept that is expanding in ever-widening circles.

Cellular Cartonplast sheets manufactured by Karton in an assortment of types and sizes already find a wide range of applications in different industrial fields.   The analysis of the Cartonplast characteristics, and therefore its most suitable applications in the various fields, are best left up to the experts in each field.   It is sufficient to mention the Cartonplast applications which are already consolidated, as, for example, in packing, fridges and motor vehicles.  But there are many other very convenient applications.

Cartonplast in packing

In packing, cellular Cartonplast sheets are used for the separate cubicles in bottle cases and in packages of canned products, bulk packaging dunnage. Cartonplast is superior to conventional carton and masonite due to its:

  • light weight
  • rigidity guaranteeing load stability
  • insensitivity to atmospheric and chemical agents
  • mechanical resistance in time, allowing its continuous use
  • Hygienic conditions without affecting the products in contact with it

Cartonplast for fridges

In this application, Cartonplast is used as a vapor barrier to protect the polyurethane foam insulation.  To its insulating properties in this application, can be added the easy ways in which it can be die cut, its light weight and water-repellence.

Cartonplast for motor vehicles

Grease, oil, rainwater and mud are substances which clog and penetrate traditional protective materials, such as paper and carton.  The protective barrier against any liquid or dust provided by cellular Cartonplast sheets, suggests its ideal application as a protection for prized carpets.

CartonPlast plastic layer pads can be used as a layer pads for food containers, layer pads for beverage containers, bulk packaging dunnage, plastic topframe and more.
